Oryx In Crates
Samaa Abdurraqib
“We were driving west from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Magdalena - a quiet artist town in the middle of nowhere, full of white artists and Latinx and Indigenous people. Getting off the interstate, we decided to drive swiftly and then slowly through the deserted landscape… we spotted the most majestic creature grazing alone about 50 feet away from the road. Later, while checking out Bosque del Apache, we learned this creatures name and habitat.Knowing that the Oryx was clearly an import, I did my own research to understand its history in this country. I was horrified.”
